A Weekend to Remember
I have a confession to make: I meant to publish this blog post months ago, it was authored in June… ope…
Despite the general disgusting humidity and the absolutely cuckoo bananas thunderstorm Southwestern Ohio saw this past weekend, I’ve had some pretty good moments over the last couple of weeks.
Kyle and I went to Franklin Conservatory. If you haven’t been there…what are you even doing with your life? Stop what you’re doing now, drive to Columbus, and buy a ticket. You can visit a bonsai garden, rainforest, desert, and wetland environments without ever really going outside. You will encounter monsteras that are actually monsters, palm trees the size of(admittedly very tiny) skyscrapers, and leaves that are bigger than your head.
When Kyle and I came back to our home after visiting that conservatory, I can’t help but notice that our houseplants are absolutely pathetic. I’m looking at you, Monstera and Pothos, you could be bigger! Why can’t you just grow in a nice air conditioned home with 0% humidity? And c’mon Calathea it’s like you aren’t even trying!
As usual we never take enough photos, but here are some highlights: The Bonsai garden is a peaceful courtyard with various species of Japanese maple trees, Ginko, and a dense grove of yellow stripe bamboo that stands about 25 feet tall. The model train town is a special exhibit that would certainly delight anyone who can appreciate the craftsmanship and care that went into it.
Another beautiful feature that Kyle especially likes is the Palm House. It is arguably the main room of the conservatory, featuring palm varieties that grow around 50 feet overhead.
On this day, there was also a wedding reception venue set up with tables, catering, and even a DJ. When the time comes for us to have our wedding reception, it is on our list of possible venues. If it were closer, then this would be our place for sure. For now, we are still considering the best place to throw our party.
For the time being, it is nice to look at the pictures, remember, and dream.
